Terry Simons has been competing in agility since 1994 when he caught the bug from his wife, Kim Thomas Simons, who felt that their dog Rembrandt, a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, could do “that”. Since that day until his retirement, Rembrandt qualified every year for the USDAA Grand Prix of Dog Agility, making it to the finals twice and finishing 2nd in the Veterans Grand Prix in 1999. To add to their credit, Rembrandt is the only NSDTR to ever make it to the USDAA Grand Prix Finals!
Terry’s second dog is a Border Collie named Curry and Terry has continued his success with Curry. At just under two years of age she won the Phoenix Grand Prix Regional, and since then has qualified for every USDAA Grand Prix.
You can find Curry’s name in the USDAA Top Ten in 1999, 2000, and 2002. Curry was also the number 5th ranked Herding Breed and the eighth ranked All Breed according to Front and Finish for 2002. In national competition Curry finished fourth at the 2000 AKC National Agility Championships in Massachusetts, and she placed 7th at the USDAA World Championships in 2001. Curry also placed 2nd at the 2003 AAC National Championships in the very competitive 22" class.
Reveille, Terry's second Border Collie, has qualified every year for the USDAA Grand Prix, Steeplechase and DAM championships in her very young career. She also is a four-time AAC National Championship qualifier, and has won the BC/Yukon Regional Agility Championships two years running, 2006 and 2007. At the 2005 AKC National Championships, Reveille made the finals her first time out! And to add to her accomplishments they finished third at the 2007 USDAA World Championship DAM Team Tournament with Lisa Dewey & Rush and Kate Moureaux & Driven
Terry has a new puppy, another Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever named “Ripper” and this puppy is ripping to go! If all goes according to plan he will have titles in hunt, agility and obedience. If it all goes ripping off in other directions, well, it will still be one good time!
All of Terry’s dogs have achieved their ADCH in USDAA Agility and Curry and Reveille have their AKC MACH as well. Terry has put obedience titles on Rembrandt, Rally titles on Curry and Reveille as well as a herding titles.
Terry works with Animal Planet as an expert agility commentator. You have no doubt seen him along side Ron Reagan in Animal Planet’s AKC National Agility Championships, and most recently with Van Earl Wright in the AKC International Invitational Agility Championship.

Since being introduced to agility at a local demonstration in 1993, Kim fell in love with the sport. She immediately found classes and began training Rembrandt, their Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, who was originally intended to be “just a pet”. But, once Kim and Rembrandt started to compete, and her husband Terry saw how fun the sport was, an addiction to dog sports in the family began!
Since Rembrandt, Kim and Terry have added six more dogs to their household; three of them NSDTR's and three Border Collies.
Unfortunately, they also lost Rembrandt in 2005 and another NSDTR, Roxanne, in 2006. Kim currently competes with the two NSDTR's - Tango, an 9 year old male and Slyder, a 3 year old female. Both dogs have agility titles in multiple venues.
Besides agility, Kim has been active in flyball, obedience and field work with her dogs. Tango and Slyder have earned field titles, and in obedience, Tango has earned his Utility Dog and Rally Excellent titles to date. Slyder has earned her Rally Novice title, and should be in the Novice obedience ring sometime soon. Tango and Kim have been very successful in obedience, with Tango earning several High in Trial honors at local shows as well as NSDTR Club Specialties.
Kim has also been an AKC agility judge since 1996, and was fortunate enough to judge the 1998 AKC Nationals. This judging assignment proved to be her "discovery" by Animal Planet! At the event, she was invited to be an "expert commentator" for the Animal Planet taping. Although it was a horrifying experience at first (for the first time in her life finding herself short of words), she enjoyed it, and went on to provide commentary for 5 additional shows.
In her "other" life, Kim works for the Walt Disney Company as a Corporate Account Director. She's been at Disney for 26 years, and hopes to be there until retirement. Kim is married to Terry, an entrepreneur and dog trainer, and they live in Northridge, CA with their 6 dogs.
